12. Every Song on the Record Played at Once for 20 Seconds
- Everyone: everything
All songs written and recorded/mixed/mastered by Martin Chapman, as well as the artwork. Almost all tracks recorded at KSDT Radio (
ksdt.ucsd.edu) at UCSD. Drums and alto sax on Alec Hamilton recorded by Ricky at Sonicrest Recording in Tujunga (
sonicrestrecording.com) and at home in San Pedro, respectively. Approaching Signal and Torture Chamber recorded at home. Some overdubs recorded at home and elsewhere as well, but I forget which ones. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Endless gratitude to:
- Kamau Kenyatta for encouraging and supporting students' original tunes in 95JC. Most of these songs were written and performed for the class from 2017-2019. Having an outlet for these songs pushed me forward in so many ways as a musician - as a writer, improviser, bandleader, arranger, listener, etc.
- KSDT, its audio program, and Caleb Hess and Sanjay John for introducing me to the world of audio and music production. I could not pull off a massive DIY stunt like this without the invaluable experience I gained recording and mixing in the audio program. Probably 90% of this record was recorded in KSDT's recording studio, not to mention the countless nights practicing the tunes with the band, and I am forever grateful to have had the opportunity to use a real studio for my music.
- All the incredible, unique, talented musicians who played on this record, and also to those that played these live but were not featured on the record. I'm honored and still in disbelief that musicians of this caliber would dig my music enough to want to record it with me. Whether or not any of you decide to pursue a music career, I hope music continues to be a positive force in your life.
